The Cultural Divide

I find it fascinating that we rarely learn about other cultures in school.  We might read a paragraph or maybe even a chapter in a book for a world history course.  But very often do not  learn about different countries and most importantly their cultures.  I can understand why maybe 20 years ago it wasn't so important for the education system to introduce this type of course in school.  But seriously, these days we are constantly in contact with the outside world- through the media, making huge business deals, trying to communicate opinions and understanding a country's differences.  Most importantly, this brings up questions of government, morals, image and relationships.  Sometimes we don't understand why a country makes certain decisions that we don't agree with.  We don't understand their actions or why they think the way they do.  We can't communicate clearly because of language barriers or the differences we see about life.  It's so easy to point the finger and say "No that's not right, they should do it this way!" All of these things contribute to a poor understanding and therefore poor communication between two places.  If we want to be successful and truly understand a country's core, we must first understand their culture and figure out how they think, how they interact and communicate with one another and what they value in life.  If we start to understand these few things we become more aware of why they make certain decisions and the gap of misunderstanding starts to fill with knowledge.  I just think it's so unfortunate that for us to understand this concept, ultimately, we have to be forced into a situation that makes us realize this.  So the question I ask is this...  If a country makes a decision that seems rash to us, is their decision wrong? Or are we ignorant for not understanding why?
