Happy Teacher Day!

Today was Happy Teacher Day in China and unlike America where most students don't think twice about even remembering the day let alone saying thanks to their teacher, the Chinese celebrate this as a very important day.  I was flocked by students wishing me Happy Teacher Day with cards, pencils, fruit, trinkets, flowers and many thanks.  The messages they wrote in the cards were so touching, I have never received such a thank you like this before.  One card that really moved me was presented in this delicate stationary where the envelope was even sealed with wax.  It was folded beautifully and written in the most careful handwriting, it read:

This is Teacher's Day and a time to be grateful to our teachers.  This profession deserves the special recognition and respect.  There is no more appropriate time then this to honor you and others in your chosen field.  You have my eternal gratefulness.  We are more thankful than we express.

What amazed me even more then this heartfelt card, was when I found out that these students got together outside of class to make these gifts and used their own money to buy these presents for us.  The respect and appreciation for teachers is very high in China and every student participates with their class in presenting or making the gift for their teacher.  The only time I ever remember thanking my teachers in America was probably in elementary school when I brought an apple to my 1st grade teacher Ms. Blake.  It's funny how the small things people do to express their gratitude, make all the difference.  So for all my teachers, family or friends reading this, I want to express my thanks for everything you have ever done for me or that you do for others because rarely do you ever hear it!  And for all you teachers out there, HAPPY TEACHER DAY!
